  22. How to install the X-Philes Windows fileviewer:
  23.  
  24. To install the software you just run the SETUP.EXE program from the \INSTALL 
  25. directory on the CD-Rom and then follow the instructions. This software
  26. will copy the software to your harddisk and create a program icon for it 
  27. in Windows. If you don't want to install the software you can run 
  28. XPHILES.EXE in the \EXEC directory to start the program directly from
  29. the CD.

  37. How to use the X-Philes viewer:
  38.  
  39. The first window that appears when you start the viewer is the area list. 
  40. This is the list of all file areas located on the CD and all
  41. the files on this CD can be found in these areas. You only have to click
  42. ONE time with the left mousebutton to access these areas. A scrollbar
  43. will appear in the bottom of the list if all areas can not fit the window
  44. at the same time.

  46. You can allways use the escape-key to close the top window, except the main
  47. window.
  48.  
  49. On top of the area list window there is a menu where you can do the following:
  50.  
  51. File:
  52.        Set CD-Rom drive:
  53.          
  54.          Normally the viewer searches automatically for the X-Philes CD-Rom.
  55.          But if it can not find it, you can manually set the correct drive
  56.          where the CD is located.
  57.  
  58.        Reset Settings:
  59.     
  60.          This option lets you center all the windows and set their default
  61.          size. This can be useful if you have moved/resized the windows 
  62.          and you want them back at the original position and size.
  63.  
  64.        Save Settings:
  65.  
  66.          This is used to save windows size, position and fonts to a 
  67.          setup file and next time you start the viewer these settings will 
  68.          be automatically loaded.

  70. Edit:
  71.        Set Font:
  72.     
  73.          Allows you to customize how the text in the area list will appear.

  76. Search:
  77.        Search:  (Control + F)
  78.          
  79.          This option lets you search all the files description for a given
  80.          keyword. The search will be made in all file areas on the CD.
  81.      A maximum of 1000 search hits will be listed.

  84.        About X-Philes:

  86.          Displays info about this product and system.

  91. The filelist(Area view) window will appear everytime you have selected an 
  92. area or made a successfully keyword search. The window will show you all 
  93. the files in the selected area or all the files that mateched in the search.
  94.  
  95. In the demo version of the X-Phile, the files that can be viewed have
  96. a star '*' infront of them and the color of the file is black.
  97. All the files that have a grey color can only be viewed in the real
  98. version of the X-Philes CD.
  99.  
  100. If you click on one of the files, an event will be activated depending on the
  101. function selected in the "function" menu.
  102.  
  103. You can scroll the window Up or Down using the scrollbar to the right of 
  104. the window or using the Cursor/Page Up/Down keys.
  105.

  107. On top of the window you can find a menu where you can do the following:
  108.  
  109. File:    
  110.         Close: (F1)
  111.    
  112.         Allows you to close the window and go to the previous area list 
  113.         window. The Escape key or F1 key on your keyboard will also 
  114.         activate this function.

  116. Edit:
  117.  
  118.         You can set the style of the text in the area viewer with this function.
  119.

  121. Search:
  122.   
  123.         This function has the same function as the Search in the previous
  124.         windows. The difference is that in this case, you can select if you 
  125.         want to search in this area(local search) or in all areas.

  128. Function:
  129.   
  130.         You can select what you want to do when you select a file with the
  131.         left mousebutton. If you select a file and press shift at the same 
  132.         time the length of file will be displayed at the top of the window.
  133.     These functions can also be selected by clicking on the 
  134.     "VIEW", "COPY", "UPLOAD" -buttons located just above the filelist.

  137.         View File:
  138.     
  139.             If the filename you have selected ends with .ZIP, another  
  140.             window will appear with a list of the contents of the .ZIP file.
  141.             From this list you can then select what file to display. 
  142.             The escape key or "Go Back" button will close the window.
  143.         If you press the big "X" button, the first file in the list 
  144.             will be selected.
  145.  
  146.             On the bottom of the "Zip Contents" window you can select 
  147.             what you want to do with the chosen file. The function of 
  148.             these buttons is the same as the one in filelist window.
  149.             
  150.             If the filename does not end with .ZIP, the fileviewer window 
  151.             or the picture viewer will appear.
  152.

  154.         Copy File:
  155.   
  156.             This function allows you to copy the selected file to an another
  157.             drive for later use. If you choose a file with this option, 
  158.             a file selector will appear where you can select the target drive 
  159.             and directory.
  160.  
  161.         Upload File:
  162.    
  163.             This function is useful if you want to transfer the file to
  164.             another computer or calculator using the standard RS-232 
  165.             serial port. X-modem is used as protocol for transferring the
  166.             files. You can only Upload files in this viewer, not downloading.
  167.             A special X-Modem uploading window will appear when you select a 
  168.             file. In this window, you can select the desired communication speed
  169.             and communication port. When the target machine is ready, just press
  170.             the "Start Transfer" button to start the upload. If you press the
  171.             "Cancel" button while uploading, the upload will be aborted.
  172.             Just press the cancel button or the escape key to return to 
  173.             the previous window.

  176.         Info:

  178.             Will display a dialogbox with the file length of the selected file.
  179.             another way to display the length of a file is to hold down 
  180.             shift and select a file. The length will then be displayed at the
  181.             top of the window.

  184. The fileviewer window:

  186. In this window, the actual contents of the file are displayed.
  187. You can use the scrollbar to the right or the Cursor/Page Up/Down keys
  188. to scroll the text up or down.

  190. On top of the Window, you can view the following parameters:
  191.     
  192.     * Number of lines of the text
  193.     * Number of characters in the text (the filelength)
  194.         * The cursors vertical posistion
  195.         * The cursors horizontal position
  196.  
  197. In the topmenu you can do the following:
  198.  
  199. File:
  200.        Save As:
  201.   
  202.           This is the function to use if you want to save the text in the 
  203.           viewer to an external file. A fileselector will appear in which
  204.           you can select the destination name, drive and directory.
  205.  
  206.        Printer Setup:
  207.     
  208.           This is used to setup the printer.
  209.  
  210.        Print:
  211.    
  212.           If you want to print out the text to your printer, this is the 
  213.           right option for you. When this option is selected, a messagebox
  214.           is displayed with the amount of lines the text consists of. 
  215.           Press "OK" to start printing and "Cancel" to return to the viewer
  216.           without printing.

  218.        Close:
  219.      
  220.           Will return you to the previous window. You can also use
  221.           F1 or the escape key to do the same thing.

  226.           Will copy the text you have selected with the mouse into the 
  227.           Windows clipboard or into some other application.

  232.           This is used to set the style of the text.

  238.           You select this option to start a new search. A window will 
  239.           appear in which you can enter the keyword to search for.

  245.        Find Previous: (Control +P)
  246.      
  247.           Finds the previous line that matches the keyword.

  252. Graphics viewer:

  254. If the file you are trying to view has the following extensions:
  255.  
  256.        .GIF .JPG .BMP .IMG .PCX .TGA .TIF .DIB
  257.  
  258. The graphics viewer will be activated and try to load the picture
  259. for viewing.
  260.  
  261. In the graphics viewer you can do the following:
  262.  
  263.     *Zoom the pictures in several steps
  264.     *Print the picture 
  265.     *SET JPEG picture parameters
  266.
